Abstract (in about 300 words)

OpenCon Satellite Event

In connection with Wiki Conference India, I would like to organize an OpenCon satellite event. OpenCon is an international conference collaborating stake holders and advocates in the fields of open access, open education and open data. An OpenCon satellite event aims at spreading the message of open initiatives.

The satellite event session would be conducted collaborating with Open Access India. The session will cover:

  • What is OpenCon? - Open Access India and why research and educational resources should be as open as possible -Sailesh Patnaik, Open Access India Ambassador.
  • Bridging research discourse in Wikipedia : The Role of Open Access - Abhinav Srivastava, Wikimedia India EC.
  • Brief about OpenCon , Wikimedians and Open Access collaboration (Remote Participation)- Joseph McArthur, Assistant Director, Right to Research Coalition.
  • Experience sharing: Creating open access learning materials using free licensed content spread across wikipedia, commons and similar sources -Kavya Manohar
  • Get views and ideas from participants to enhance open initiatives in their communities.
