Abstract (in about 300 words)

The goal of this talk is to introduce Wikidata -- the needs it addresses, and its basic structure and principles -- to experienced Wikimedians who are not yet comfortable with Wikidata beyond adding interwiki links.

I have given versions of this talk on several occasions already (most recently at Wikimania 2016 in Esino Lario), to excellent feedback, so I am confident my approach is useful for Wikimedians looking to finally understand Wikidata.

The expected outcome of the talk is for the attendees to feel enthusiasm about Wikidata and eagerness to try it and get involved with it.

Note: ideally, I want to cover multiple aspects of Wikidata, up to and including querying using SPARQL and Wikidata-based tools like the Wikidata Game, Reasonator, QuickStatements, etc. Thus the requested time slot is 240 minutes (4 hours). However, I can also offer a shorter version, for which I would request at least 90 minutes, and preferably 120 minutes.
