WikiIndaba Conference 2018/Helmi Hamdi/Report

Event Name[edit]

Before the conference, I have participated unofficially within the program committee by giving ideas about organizing and scheduling the program (see TN user group newsletter).

During the conference, I held a worshop with Alex Stinson (Wikimedia Foundation, United States) about Wikidata. The presentation material is attached to this report.

I also participated, with others, to the Lightning talks: How to, by explaining in few slides how to support African languages Wikis.
I lunched with the Kiwix team an ambassador program to promote the software among UG and language communities.

Because I have participated in WikiIndaba 2017, I knew the majority of participants and met them before. But discussions evolved.

Anass_Sedrati after knowing that I work on Wikidata, put me after the conference with a wikipedian that is trying to import data into Wikidata. I helped that person by giving him detailed links and procedures for importing and editing on Wikidata.

I discussed with Ghulam Al-Asmar about implementing a UG in Lybia and gave him advice.

Working with others now to create an AfricoCine project to promote African Cinema. The project is still under discussion.
Started attending the African hour.
Preparing a presentation for Wikimania 2018 that is in continuity with the lightning talk I gave during WinIndaba 2018: What tools do we need for small Wikis to increase content and quality?. Discussions after the lightening talk gave me more information about what communities need to help them increase their content and quality.
