WikiIndaba conference 2018/Report/Stephane (Kiwix)

Event Name[edit]

WikiIndaba Conference 2018

My Input[edit]

I participated for Kiwix and made a presentation on recent and near-future Kiwix developments. Most importantly, we launched the Kiwix Ambassadors initiative - basically listing volunteers who are also a Kiwix users and able to disseminate/answer questions in their own country/language. Was able to connect with our userbase and get direct feedbacks, which is important.

Participant Connections[edit]

A few participants I knew, but a lot more I did not, including people I'd interacted with offline. The goal was equally to know and be known (so that people willing to do deployments know where/whom to reach to later on). I'm not sure that the point is to throw names, so let's move to outcomes!

Ingredients: mostly carbs, oil and honey.
10/10, would eat again.

Outcomes[edit]

  • Met with Florence and Alangi to discuss tech development of m:WikiFundi this year;
  • Met with Florence and Isla to discuss future WikiFundi deployments;
  • New Ambassadors: Bachounda, Helmoony, Dyolf77, Flixtey, Blossom;
  • Rossouw will deploy Kiwix in his Namibian hometown;
  • Cleared expectations with Katherine re:upcoming Kiwix partnership.
  • A picture I made found its way to two articles (1 new) + Wikidata entry. Two more uploads so far unused (1, 2);
  • The Most Excellent Zach McCune also made a most excellent picture of me which I now use on my user page. I still don't look good, but now at least I look better.

Overall a series of very useful and productive meetings - thanks Team Tunisia!
