- Wiki Loves Monuments is an international annual, low-barrier photo competition. It has been organized by national teams in more than 75 countries around the world, and photo competitions like Wiki Loves Monuments have proven to be a good first project to organize for local teams.
- The concept has been especially successful in some parts of the world, we would like to explore the opportunities and challenges that Wiki Loves Monuments faces in (sub-Saharan) Africa, and how we could further develop the concept to make it both more accessible and more impactful. In this session, we will introduce to you what Wiki Loves Monuments is and how you could implement it perhaps in your country (10-15 min presentation), and after some questions (5 min), I would like to think with you what components of the competition work best in Africa, and what could perhaps be improved to make it more successful. I will collect these lessons and this input during and after the session, and report back to the international team and community, as the start of a process to improve the concept and infrastructure.
- What will attendees take away from this session?
- If you never organized a Wiki Loves competition before, this can serve as a helpful introduction. I hope that the most important outcome will be a process that will make it easier for you to organize Wiki Loves Monuments. We would like to hear your input, and expect that you will also learn from organizers from other countries.
(note for programme organizers: depending on other presentations available and makeup of the programme, I'm happy to be flexible in the way we make this happen. For example, I can imagine splitting this session into two components: one with a presentation, and one with a discussion (which makes the target audience a bit easier maybe, and makes it possible to combine it with a panel on Wiki Loves competitions). Happy to be creative, but please do check in with me, to make sure it still works with the goals I have in mind as well. Thanks!)

However, the format I proposed does not quite lend itself to 'add a co-author'; it is intended as a generic international overview followed by an interactive conversation.
