We will have a peer-learning workshop on the topic of developing and implementing projects with external partners. Few participants will be able to present challenges they experienced while working with partners, and the remaining participants will provide peer consultation on these challenges. These peer consultations will happen in small group settings to allow for an in-depth understanding and discussion of current challenges that people are facing in their local contexts. Participants play an important role in the workshop both as (1) an expert by engaging as a consultant based on their own experiences and as (2) a listener who gets to hear and learn from other participants/experts. Particularly, we will shine a light on partnerships that have been either successful or failed, and try to understand common dynamics. In the end, we will develop dos and don'ts based on the participants' experiences.
- What will attendees take away from this session?
Participants will walk away from this workshop with a set of tangible, applicable practices for the challenges they are facing in their partnerships work. All participants will develop a better understanding of the common pitfalls in partnerships work while also being able to share their own expertise with others. By being able to give advice while also listening to other people’s advice at the same during the peer consultations, participants will be inspired to replicate some of the promising practices shared in the workshop.

Beginning to advanced: This workshop is open to anyone who either has just started or has years of experience working with partners from other organizations, GLAMs, or other institutions (educational, public etc.).

- 90 minutes
Due to the participatory design of this workshop, a longer session than 50 minutes is required to have ample time for participants to really engage in and work on each others challenges. Participants will work in small groups in order to do that and a shorter workshop frame would not allow enough time to share the results of this group work back with the larger audience of the workshop. Based on last year’s WikiIndaba Partnerships workshop, we learned that 90 minutes is the desired time to allow for a workshop introduction, small group time, information gathering and synthesis, and time for sharing with the larger group and Q & A.
