News and media reportage about Africa has always been subject by the journalistic policies of international media organizations. In view of this news about Africa has always been that of a continent with wars, famine and poverty. However, there are other equally good initiatives or news happening around Africa but never get reported.
Wikipedia has a lot of sister projects which are all free and globally accessible. One of these is Wiki News which receives less attention and incidentally has a few African contributors. This presentation will seek to introduce Wiki News as a project to Africans that can be used to address this systematic bias when it comes to media reportage about Africa. This is to whip the interest in experience editors to either look into contributing African news to Wiki News or training journalists in their respective countries to contribute African news on Wiki News.
