- Abstract (up to 300 words to describe your proposal)
- The Wikimedia Club began on the Nigerian university campus at the University of Ibadan in 2016. It was incorporated and registered into the statute of the University of Ibadan as one of the students’ movement organisations which the university recognises and granted license to operate within its stipulated vision and mission. It has grown from twenty members at inception to about eighty active members, with over twenty graduated members and twenty unregistered but active participants in their programmes. The club has organised about ten events in the last two years since inception. As at 2018, members of the club are among the most active wiki editors and contributors in Nigeria. About five other universities have adopted some the models created by the University of Ibadan Wikimedia Club in starting the Wikimedia club in their own campuses.
- This presentation highlights how the University of Ibadan Wikimedia Club has adopted the three-pronged approach of Influence, Benefits and Follow-ups (IBF) as strategic measures in growing and sustaining the club on campus. The methodology of presentation will be poster with graphical representation which reinforces the systematic collation of data. The presentation will highlights useful suggestions for future developments and provide insights at generating ideas for further outreach to other campuses to establish the club.
