Description :
According to a UNESCO estimate, there are 6000 languages in the world. However, 50% of them are threatened with extinction, particularly in Africa. If nothing is done, 90% of these endangered languages could disappear by the end of this century. The disappearance of these languages will cause the loss of a great quantity of human knowledge. In this presentation, I explain the projects that the Wikimedia foundation supports and their number and history and what is being done to develop these projects. The principle of such Wikimedia projects is simple. But, it is time to use the new technologies to go faster than man because man has sometimes to procrastinate. Machines don't. In this context, two flagship projects have been launched to support open knowledge: Wikidata and Abstract Wikipedia. We will highlight what are these Wikimedia Projects driven by Artificial Intelligence and how they can be used to enhance the representation of human knowledge. |
