Wiki ASEAN Day 2026

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Wiki ASEAN Day 2026 is a regional Wikimedia initiative that celebrates ASEAN's achievements, diversity, and shared vision under the 2026 ASEAN Summit theme, “Navigating Our Future, Together.” The event brings together Wikipedia contributors from ASEAN member states to amplify knowledge about ASEAN on Wikipedia by improving the quality, depth, and regional representation of information available to millions of readers worldwide. This year’s event also aligns with ASEAN’s main priorities by focusing on the People Empowerment pillar under the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, particularly within the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community.

Edit-A-Thon

[edit]

Edit-A-Thon is a month-long online editing campaign open to participants from all ASEAN member states and beyond. Whether you are a first-time editor or an experienced Wikimedian, everyone is welcome to contribute.

Contributions can be made in a wide range of languages including Indonesian, Malay, Thai, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Burmese, Lao, Khmer, Portuguese, Chinese, and English. We also encourage contributions in local and regional languages such as Javanese, Sundanese, Minangkabau, Banjar, Bugis, Balinese, Maduranese and Acehnese.

If your country has a specific local language not yet listed, please reach out to us so we can add it to our outreach tracker and ensure your community is represented.

Wiki ASEAN Talk

[edit]

An online moderated discussion bringing together two Wikimedian contributors as youth representatives from ASEAN member states. The session is designed as an open conversation where panelists share their firsthand experiences contributing to the Wikimedia movement from Southeast Asia.

The discussion will explore three core discussion: the current state of Southeast Asia's representation in the global Wikimedia movement and the content gaps that still need to be filled; the role of youth as the next generation of knowledge builders who can shape how the world understands the region; and how ASEAN can harness the power of open knowledge to tell its own story.

Guided by a moderator, the conversation invites honest dialogue and a shared vision for what a stronger, more represented ASEAN looks like on the world's largest free encyclopedia.
