This page is for the annual report of Wiki Advocates Philippines User Group. This report is a summary of the activities hosted from June 2025 - May 2026.

Wiki Advocates Philippines User Group is a community of Filipino volunteer Wikimedians advocating free knowledge through the different Wikimedia projects and promoting the use of these projects in education and equal gender representation. We strive to empower communities through project development, support global human rights advocacy, and host campaigns promoting the open knowledge ecosystem.

  • Bringing Baybayin to Central Bikol Wiktionary | A new tool is reviving the ancient Filipino script, Baybayin, by integrating it into the Central Bikol Wiktionary. Developed by Wiki Advocates Philippines, this innovative feature allows for the transliteration of Bikol words into the pre-colonial writing system. The tool is a significant step in cultural preservation, reconnecting the language to its historical roots and providing a richer linguistic context for users. By making Baybayin more accessible, it serves as an educational resource for a new generation. The gadget is user-friendly, with a simple activation process within Wiktionary preferences that enables editors to easily convert and add the script to entries. This initiative helps ensure that Baybayin remains a living part of the Philippines' cultural and linguistic identity.   • PHZines Project | The PHZines Project is a collaborative initiative aimed at systematically adding, structuring, and enriching data about independently published and underground materials to Wikidata. This is in hopes of documenting texts to be used as an alternative source in literature and language teaching. This will focus on the textbooks, zines, school papers, as well as newspaper entries published in Bikol, Filipino, and Philippine English.   • WikiBridges Project | The WikiBridges Project is a documentation project focused on mapping and recording bridge infrastructure in the Philippines across platforms like Wikidata and OpenStreetMap. The program aims to create a centralized, open-access database of bridge data, including historical significance and technical details that are often restricted to offline government records. By linking geospatial data with structured information, the project helps preserve local knowledge and provides valuable resources for researchers, government planning, and public navigation.   • Wikimedia Commons Explorer | A lite, mobile-optimized interface for searching and attributing media on Wikimedia Commons. It filters the massive global repository into curated, locally relevant collections (Nature, History, Architecture) and features a "One-Click Attribution" generator. It solves the "Fear of Use" among educators and students. By providing guaranteed-correct citations and license verification, it transforms a "shelf" of unused images into an active resource for classroom materials and Wiki-articles.

  • Wikidata Day Philippines 2025 | On October 31, 2025, Wiki Advocates Philippines celebrated the 13th anniversary of Wikidata with a community event at the Learning Hub. The celebration featured an edit-a-thon, training sessions for new contributors, and the launch of the WikiCommons Explorer Tool to streamline resource citations. It also served as a showcase for ongoing documentation initiatives like WikiBridges and PHZines, highlighting the role of structured data in preserving Filipino heritage and infrastructure.   • Wikipedia 25th Anniversary | To participate in the global celebration of Wikipedia's 25th anniversary, Wiki Advocates Philippines volunteers and supporters organized a meet-up to celebrate this milestone. Volunteers introduced Wikipedia, the Wikimedia Commons Explorer. PHZines to newcomers. The half-day long event included get to know eah other, providing clarities on common misconceptions and a local poetry reading from the participants as part of promoting the PHZines project. PhilHeritage Data Compass Tool | This tool is a data-analysis dashboard that scans Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons to identify documentation gaps in local heritage items from the Philippines. It generates metadata documentation status for specific municipalities, highlighting which Wikidata properties are lacking, like coordinates, descriptions, or imagery, for each heritage assets they possibly own. Instead of running a random content creation campaigns, this tool will allow our team to perform targeted data documentation to fill specific missing gaps in Philippine heritage records. View Tool

  • SUYAT (Tool) | SUYAT is a digital initiative dedicated to collaborative preservation and revitalization of indigenous Philippine writing systems by incorporating them in different Philippine language-based Wiktionaries. A phonetic transcription tool designed to bridge the gap between Latin-based scripts and indigenous Philippine scripts, collectively referred to as Suyat. It allows for the visual representation of Bikolano and other regional languages in their ancestral forms. It automates the inclusion of indigenous scripts on Philippine-language based Wiktionaries, ensuring that cultural wisdom is preserved in its authentic visual context. View Tool


  • Wordlist Generator Gadget | This wordlist generator tool is a custom MediaWiki gadget designed to streamline the collaborative documentation of the Bikol Sentral priority word lists. By integrating directly into the Wiktionary interface, it transforms static tables into a dynamic data-entry platform. This gadget reviews word page content completeness and prprovides a simpler contribution experience especially for new editors. It's design to audio and visual file in Wikimedia Commons and easily utilize them in Wiktionary pages. This gadget reduces the technical barrier for volunteers, ensuring that the focus remains on linguistic accuracy and cultural preservation rather than technical formatting.
