Also known as Wiki Advocates Philippines, Inc. (WAP) is a legally registered non-profit organization and a recognized Wikimedia affiliate based in the Philippines. Active as a community since 2020 and formally recognized as a user group in 2023, the user group is dedicated to bridging the information poverty gap and promoting free, open knowledge in the country. Wiki Advocates Philippines channels Wikimedia Movement advocacies to diverse civil societies throughout the Philippines and the broader East, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific (ESEAP) Region. The organization's work focuses on access to quality education, equal gender representation, human rights advocacy, language and culture preservation, and inclusive technology for a sustainable future.

Objectives

Develop the Bikol Wiktionary through series of edit-a-thons and language preservation activities such as studying orthography, adding vocabularies, and recording pronunciations through the Lingua Libre and Spell4Wiki application.
Improve contents of Central Bikol Wikiquote and Tagalog Wikiquote through involvement in campaigns such as SheSaid and Art and Feminism, and programs such as Hatch-A-Wiki.

Specific goals

Meet-ups. The group will be organizing meet-ups for its members in order to exchange ideas and to find ways to support them to continue editing the projects in areas where they would need help.
Translate-a-thons. The group will be helping new Wikimedians learn editing techniques, and translate and improve the content in Wikimedia projects using the content translation tool.
Trainings. The group will be conducting online and offline training on how to effectively contribute to the different Wikimedia Projects and how to participate in the different global campaigns.
Resource Sharing. The group will develop open-access materials related to accessing the different Wiki projects and develop an offline Wikipedia suitable for the Philippine communities and share it among the remote communities here in the country.
Community Office Hours. The group will be conducting online tutorials, talks, Q&A sessions, and Wikiprojects on-boarding for newbies experienced Wikimedians or anyone who is up for open knowledge and Wikimedia-based projects.

Language Preservation & Promotion (Salbar Tataramon)

Wiki Advocates Philippines implements the Salbar Tataramon (Save the Language) program to document, preserve, and revitalize indigenous and regional languages of the Philippines on Wikimedia platforms:

Hatch-A-Wiki Project: Focuses on incubating and developing local language Wikimedia projects. WAP spearheaded the graduation of the Central Bikol Wiktionary from the incubator (which currently houses over 9,000 entries) and the Central Bikol Wikiquote, Tagalog Wikiquote. Currently supporting the decvelopment of the Rinconada Wiktionary.
WikiBoses: An oral history and audio preservation project that creates an open-access repository of spoken-word recordings and native literature on Wikimedia Commons to assist students, educators, and language researchers.
SUYAT Tool & Baybayin Transliteration Gadget: Pioneer digital tools that integrate ancient pre-colonial Philippine scripts (such as Baybayin, Hanunó'o, Buhid, and Tagbanwa) into modern platforms. WAP deployed a user-friendly transliteration tool and on-screen keyboard on the Central Bikol Wiktionary, ensuring ancient scripts remain accessible in contemporary digital spaces.
