This workshop aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to contribute high-quality images for the Wiki Loves Folklore (WLF) 2025 contest and understand the role of feminism in folklore documentation.

Attendees will:

  • Learn best practices for capturing and uploading quality images to Wikimedia Commons.
  • Gain insights into the impact of WLF in preserving cultural heritage.
  • Understand the role of feminism in folklore and how to contribute to related Wikimedia projects.

This event is open to all, whether you are an experienced Wikimedian or a newcomer interested in folklore and digital documentation.

Introduction to Wiki Loves Folklore (WLF) (10 minutes) Explanation of WLF, its purpose, key dates, prize money, and global impact.
Past Year References and Examples (10 minutes) Showcase of winning photographs from previous WLF editions and examples of selected/rejected images with reasons.
Do’s and Don’ts for WLF Photography (10 minutes) Best practices for capturing quality images, avoiding common mistakes, and ensuring copyright compliance.
How to Upload Images to Wikimedia Commons (10 minutes) Step-by-step guide to uploading images, adding descriptions, categories, and proper licensing.
Short Break (10–15 minutes) Refreshment and networking break.
Introduction to Feminism and Folklore (10 minutes) Overview of the connection between feminism and folklore and its significance in cultural preservation.
Contributing to Feminism and Folklore on Wikipedia (30 minutes) Guidelines for writing, editing, and updating articles related to feminism and folklore, including research tips and a live demonstration.
Q&A and Discussion (10 minutes) Open floor for participant questions and discussions.
Closing Remarks (10 minutes) Summary of key takeaways, appreciation for speakers and participants, and encouragement to contribute to WLF 2025 and Wikimedia projects.
