About

The Wiki GLAM Palestine – Tourism and Archaeology Training is a specialized capacity-building program designed for students of Tourism and Archaeology in Palestine. The program combines an online learning session with practical field visits to university museums, enabling participants to apply Wikimedia practices in documenting cultural heritage.

The initiative introduces participants to:

Wiki GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums)
Wikimedia Commons (media repository)
Wikidata (structured data)
Wikipedia (free encyclopedia)
Open licensing (Creative Commons)

The program emphasizes open knowledge, cultural heritage documentation, and collaboration with museums and academic institutions. By the end of the training, participants will have developed practical skills in: - Photographing and documenting heritage objects - Uploading media to Wikimedia Commons - Creating and improving Wikipedia articles - Adding structured data to Wikidata - Engaging with the global Wikimedia community

Field Visit Activities

During each museum visit, participants will:

Receive a guided tour of the museum collections
Photograph selected objects (with museum permission)
Upload images to Wikimedia Commons with proper metadata
Create or enhance Wikidata items for documented objects
Improve relevant Wikipedia articles using collected information
Document their experience through blog posts or social media

Use high-resolution settings
Capture multiple angles of each object
Include a scale reference when possible
Ensure proper lighting and focus
Obtain necessary permissions from museum staff
