Wiki Leaders Training 2025 is a dynamic two-day leadership and capacity-building program organized by Wikimedia Bangladesh. Scheduled for 24–25 October 2025 in the scenic coastal city of Cox’s Bazar, this program brings together passionate Wikimedia contributors from across Bangladesh to learn, collaborate, and grow as community leaders.
The inaugural 2025 edition embraces the theme Learners to Leaders, celebrating the journey from active contributor to confident community leader. Through interactive workshops, collaborative exercises, and practical sessions, participants will enhance their leadership, project management, and technical skills while strengthening connections across Wikimedia projects. This initiative aims to empower participants to take the lead in their local and regional communities, fostering a culture of mentorship, inclusivity, and shared learning.
Overview
[edit]The Wiki Leaders Training 2025 is designed to empower active Wikimedia community members with potential leadership and organizational skills. Through interactive sessions, group work, and practical exercises, participants will strengthen their ability to lead Wikimedia initiatives, build partnerships, and mentor new contributors.
Objectives
[edit]The program’s objectives focus on equipping participants with leadership, collaboration, and community-building skills:

- Building Connections: One of the key goals of Wiki Leaders Training 2025 is to help participants form meaningful connections across Wikimedia communities. By fostering a network of peers and mentors, the program encourages collaboration, sharing of best practices, and the development of sustainable leadership within local and regional projects.
- Encouraging Active Participation: The training aims to empower participants to actively engage in Wikimedia initiatives. This includes taking leadership roles in ongoing projects, embracing new challenges, initiating community programs, and contributing to the overall growth of the movement.
- Strengthening Leadership and Teamwork: Developing leadership and teamwork skills is central to the program. Participants will practice project planning, execution, and coordination, enhancing their ability to guide teams, mentor new contributors, and lead initiatives that have a tangible impact.
- Promoting Community Health and Inclusivity: Awareness of community dynamics and fostering inclusive practices are crucial for healthy Wikimedia communities. The program emphasizes understanding challenges faced by contributors, supporting diversity, and nurturing an environment where all voices are valued.
- Enhancing Outreach and GLAM Engagement: The training provides participants with practical skills to conduct outreach activities, collaborate with GLAM institutions, and engage with broader communities. By strengthening these capacities, participants can help expand Wikimedia’s reach and foster meaningful partnerships.
- Sustainability and Long-term Impact: A core objective is to encourage practices that ensure the long-term sustainability of leadership and projects. Participants are guided to create strategies, maintain networks, and implement initiatives that continue to benefit the community beyond the training itself.
Focus Areas
[edit]The 2025 training emphasises practical domains that help participants apply the skills outlined in the Objectives. These include:
- Community Leadership: fostering inclusive, collaborative leadership across local and national Wikimedia communities.
- Technical Skills: enhancing familiarity with Wikimedia tools, templates, and workflows for project implementation.
- Outreach: developing effective strategies for awareness, engagement, and community-building activities.
- GLAM Engagement: strengthening participants’ ability to work with galleries, libraries, archives, and museums.
- Sustainability and Impact: encouraging practices that ensure long-term benefits for communities and initiatives.
Participants
[edit]The WLT 2025 Core Organising Team selected participants based on feedback from Wikimedia Bangladesh regional community leaders, taking into account participants’ prior activities and contributions to the Wikimedia movement.

Venue

Sea Pearl Beach Resort & Spa is a serene coastal retreat on Inani Beach at Cox's Bazar, offering stunning views of the Bay of Bengal. Surrounded by gentle hills on one side and the vast sea on the other, the resort provides a peaceful environment ideal for learning and collaboration.
The property covers approximately 15 acres and is situated about 40 minutes from Cox's Bazar city, making it easily accessible while still offering a tranquil setting away from the bustle. Its natural surroundings and spacious layout create an inspiring backdrop for workshops and community events.
