The first phase of the project commenced in July 2025 and is scheduled to continue until December 2025, with plans to extend it in the future. This initial phase focuses on selected tasks to lay a strong foundation for long-term cultural documentation efforts.

As part of the project, local volunteers were trained to document valuable cultural artefacts. These efforts help preserve Assam's unique cultural heritage while ensuring that it becomes globally visible and accessible.

The documentation spans multiple locations across Assam, with a focus on areas of significant cultural and historical significance. The project aims to capture and preserve the essence of Assamese culture, encompassing festivals, folk songs and dances, traditional attire, crafts, architecture, rituals, folklore, and more, thereby highlighting its richness and diversity.

Through this initiative, Wiki Loves Assamese Culture not only safeguards cultural heritage but also contributes to the broader mission of open knowledge by making Assamese traditions available to the world.
