Wiki Loves Film 2025 (formerly Films on Wikipedia) is a Central European challenge dedicated to films, cinema, filmmakers of different professions. The challenge is aimed at improving and updating existing articles, creating new articles, uploading photos and videos related to films, film culture, history and practice. The initiative rose in the Czech Republic in 2024 spread across the CEE region including Poland, Slovakia, Croatia, Romania, North Macedonia or Armenia.

About

The aim of the call is to engage Wikipedians and Wikimedians in CEE region to focus on film and cinema during July and August 2025. It also aims to call relevant organisations and institutions such as archives, museums, trusts, industry organisations, film and audiovisual festivals to identify opportunities for presentation on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. Activities include workshops, training, editathons.

The Wiki Loves Film initiative belongs to the WikiProject Films on the Czech Wikipedia, which brings together active Wikipedians and Wikimedians interested in film. The culmination of the continuous initiative is a summer challenge, which runs from July 1st to August 31st, 2025. During the challenge, the aim is to cover summer film festivals in the Czech Republic (the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Summer Film School in Uherské Hradiště), Poland (Nowe Horyzonty Wroclaw), Slovakia (4 Elements) and other countries. However, anyone can participate in the call!

If you want to be informed about any activities, which are part of the Wiki Loves Film community, please fill this online form. We will reach out to you soon!

Continuous

  • editing of the existing articles in various languages during July 1st, 2025 – August 31st, 2025 (using hashtag #wikifilm)
  • new articles from the list of proposed articles list (using hashtag #wikifilm). Any articles about films, filmmakers, TV series, history of cinema etc. will be part of the competition, not only from the CEE countries!
  • uploading photos from/of filmmakers, producers, institutions (such as archives, etc.)
  • uploading videos of any kind related to film

  • Call Wiki Loves Film is running from July 1st to August 31st, 2025.
  • Main organiser of this challenge is Wikimedia Czech Republic, in participation Wikimedia CEE Hub and Wikimedia Polska.
  • Scope of this challenge is CEE region, participants eligible from following countries: Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Bulgaria, Croatia, North Macedonia, Hungary, Armenia, Malta.
  • Participants take part in this challenge and competition using hashtag #wikifilm. Participants can upload also photos, videos, audio or pdf files to Wikimedia Commons using a specific category. List of proposed articles is avalible here.
  • 3 participants will be awarded non-monetary awards using a lottery system. Special jury will award the global top 5 pages using wikirank tool.
  • Rules of the competition are published on special site.
