This project is a collaborative program by the National Folklore Board and Wiki Loves Living Heritage Ghana. This project outlines a collaborative pilot program between the National Folklore Board (NFB) and the Wiki Loves Living Heritage Team. The project aims to explore effective strategies for building partnerships and fostering knowledge equity in representing Ghanaian folklore and living heritage on Wikimedia platforms (Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons and Wikisource).

Building Knowledge Equity with Collaboration

The project leverages the strengths of both entities:

• NFB Expertise: Offers extensive knowledge of Ghanaian folklore and living heritage.
• Wiki Loves Living Heritage Ghana Team Skills: Provides expertise on Wikimedia platforms and online knowledge sharing.

This collaboration aims to:

• Address Knowledge Gaps: Increase representation of Ghanaian folklore online, tackling under-documented areas.
• Empower Local Voices: Integrate local knowledge and perspectives into online cultural resources.
• Create Equitable Representation: Ensure diverse voices and cultural expressions are reflected accurately.

Strategies for Building Capacity:

The project will introduce a series of workshops for NFB staff and its clubs, focusing on:

• Wikimedia Platforms: Training on using Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons and Wikisource for content creation.
• Content Creation Guidelines: Ensuring high-quality content that adheres to Wikimedia policies.
• Cultural Heritage Sensitivity: Understanding appropriate documentation and respect for cultural practices.

Sustainability in Wikimedia Projects:

This pilot program lays the groundwork for ongoing collaboration between NFB and Wiki Loves Living Heritage Ghana. The NFB will be empowered to:
