Through visuals and voices, the Niger Delta speaks
Overview
[edit]Wiki Niger Delta Heritage Collective is an initiative of Open Media Foundation focused on documenting, preserving, and promoting the rich cultural, environmental, historical, and living heritage of the Niger Delta through Wikimedia projects and other open knowledge platforms. It is a community of professional photographers, videographers, and oral storytellers from across the Niger Delta States in Nigeria dedicated to documenting and preserving the cultural heritage, social life, and environmental realities of the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
Our work covers a wide scope, from vibrant masquerades, festivals, and crafts to everyday life, community voices, and the urgent challenges of oil pollution and climate change. Through photography, videography, and oral documentaries, we aim to safeguard the living heritage of the Niger Delta and make it freely accessible to the world via Wikimedia Commons and other Wikimedia projects.
As part of the global Wikimedia movement, WikiNiger Delta Heritage Collective contributes to open knowledge, ensuring that the diverse identities, traditions, and contemporary realities of the Niger Delta are represented and shared across the world’s largest free knowledge platforms.
