About

The Wiki Science Competition (WSC) is an international photo contest focused on the visual representation of science, organized by the Wikimedia movement to promote free and open knowledge.

In 2025, India will host its first fully localized edition of the competition, coordinated by volunteers from the Wikimedia community. The goal is to encourage the free sharing of high-quality scientific media, images, videos, and more on Wikimedia Commons and to highlight India's scientific achievements and innovation.

History

The WSC was launched in Estonia in 2011 as a national event. It expanded to all of Europe in 2015, and by 2017 became a global competition. Since then, thousands of scientific images have been freely shared by researchers, photographers, and enthusiasts worldwide.

In 2025, India will join with its own national edition featuring outreach events, expert jury evaluation, and national prizes.

Why Participate?

The Wiki Science Competition offers participants a unique opportunity to blend science, creativity, and open knowledge.

  • Global Recognition – Your work reaches millions through Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and educational platforms worldwide.
  • Professional Development – Enhance your scientific communication and visual documentation skills.
  • Community Impact – Contribute to open knowledge that supports education, research, and public understanding of science.
  • Networking Opportunities – Connect with scientists, photographers, educators, and Wikimedia community members across India.
  • Awards and Prizes – Outstanding contributions receive national and international recognition.

Whether you are a professional scientist, researcher, student, educator, or simply a science enthusiast, this competition welcomes your vision and passion to help document India’s scientific heritage and innovation.
