Wikidata Trainings For Turkic Wikimedians 2022 – international conference/training days of the Turkic Wikimedia movement, will be held on 21–23 October 2022 in Istanbul, Turkey. The Wikimedia Turkic UG Scholarships Program is offering a limited number of scholarships to cover the cost of selected individuals' travel and accommodation to attend training days using funding provided by the Wikimedia Foundation.

The following page describes the process for Wikimedia Turkic UG's scholarships.

Important dates[edit]

The anticipated timeline for the Turkic UG Scholarship Program is as follows:

  • Scholarship applications open: 7 June 2022
  • Deadline to apply for scholarships for visitors from abroad: 30 June 2022 23:59 UTC
  • Deadline to apply for scholarships for visitors from Türkiye: 31 July 2022 23:59 TSİ
  • Eligibility assessment & evaluations by the Scholarship Committee: 1-15 July 2022
  • Applicants are notified about final decisions: 15-20 July 2022
  • The final list of recipients is announced by August.

Eligibility to apply[edit]

Any active contributor to a Wikimedia project (at least 500 edits in the last year and at least 1000 edits for the entire period), or Wikimedia volunteer in any capacity, from the Turkic world + regional communities (Georgia, Armenia, and Iran), is considered eligible for a scholarship. As the program supports volunteer participation, individuals whose participation is tied to paid work are not eligible for a scholarship, including paid or contract staff of any Wikimedia organization. Part-time staff, interns, and working students are excluded from this rule.

Activity within the Wikimedia movement (in any capacity) will be the main criteria for evaluation. Participation in non-Wikimedia free knowledge, free software, collaborative, or educational initiatives is a benefit, but is not a requirement.

Scholarships[edit]

In total, it's planned to give out more than 35 scholarships for participants from the Turkic and regional communities, as well as for participants from Turkey who live outside of Istanbul. Up to three scholarships will be allocated for large communities, and at least one for small communities.

You can apply for the scholarship in three languages: English, Turkish and Russian.
