Wikifunctions for Education is a community-led initiative to explore and promote the use of Wikifunctions in teaching, learning, and curriculum development. It aims to support educators, students, and Wikimedia contributors in creating reusable, multilingual functions that empower knowledge access and open education.

Goals

[edit]
  • Introduce educators and students to the concept of Wikifunctions.
  • Create and localize functions that support educational topics (math, language, logic, etc.).
  • Foster computational thinking, coding skills, and collaborative learning.
  • Integrate Wikifunctions into Wikimedia Education Programs and classroom projects.

Example Use Cases

[edit]
  • Math formula calculators (area, geometry, conversions)
  • Language learning tools (verb conjugators, pluralizers, quiz generators)
  • Historical date converters (Gregorian → Hijri, Bangla calendar)
  • Simple logic functions for curriculum-aligned lessons

Activities

[edit]
  • Introductory workshops and training for educators
  • Function prototyping sprints with student volunteers
  • Localization of existing functions into local languages
  • Collaboration with Wikimedia Education affiliates and schools

Get Involved

[edit]
