Abstract

In 2018, Wiki Education Foundation piloted a new program to engage subject matter experts in contributing articles in their subject matter expertise to the English Wikipedia. Through a 3-month course, we met with professors, librarians, and other experts weekly through a videoconference and taught them how to make meaningful contributions to Wikipedia. We’ve provided continuing education certification upon completing our course, and the results so far have been outstanding both in terms of getting subject matter experts to actually click the edit button as well as in improving highly viewed but underdeveloped content.

In this session, we’ll explain what we did, how we did it, and what we learned. We’ll offer helpful hints on how other program leaders could start their own version of this program in their countries, so we can spread the impact of this idea globally!
