Strategic goal #2: Increase the profile of WANZ, Wikimedia projects, and New Zealand projects
[edit]WANZ seeks to increase our profile across Aotearoa New Zealand. We will continue to develop our social media and general media platforms and we plan to research and post on more platforms, for example Mastodon. This will increase our visibility and appeal to diverse audiences. We have developed our key messaging with assistance from media training experts and we will refine this messaging across our platforms, measuring and evaluating where we are having the most impact.
We will focus on the gaps in Wikimedia content for Aotearoa New Zealand, determining what the gaps are and developing our priorities for addressing the gaps. We will continue to survey our editor community for input into this process.
We will promote Wikimedia Projects, and the NZ Projects category in the wiki ecosystem. Feedback from our Wikimedians in Residence and event organisers tells us that themed events tend to get more interest and more attendees. We will seek to understand the themes the community is interested in and run more themed events to improve related content.
Objectives/Key Actions
[edit]- Develop a multimedia strategy to increase national awareness across our platforms
- Promote the value of Wikimedia in the fight against disinformation, highlighting Wikipedia for research, information literacy and public knowledge.
- Proactively seek out conferences and events for our Board, members and organisers, to speak at and present about Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons and Wikisource.
- Identify and promote information gaps on English Wikipedia for Aotearoa New Zealand topics.
- Raise the profile of international Wikimedia Projects and increase contributions locally.
