Wikiclubs

As of April 30, there are 278 registered members in all 10 active Wikiclubs (Goris, Ddmashen, Lernapat, Kirants, Koghb, Hatsik, Jermuk, Kajaran, Ijevan, and Gyumri).
This month Wikiclub members joined the “CEE Spring” contest locally organized by Wikimedia Armenia.
Wikiedits
[edit]Throughout the month, 47 out of 278 Wikiclub members contributed to Wikipedia. Overall, they made 449 edits and created 94 articles. In total, Wikiclubs contributed 2,618,245 bytes to Armenian Wikipedia.
In April, 42 Wikiclub members contributed to Wikidata, making 123 edits.
Other events
[edit]On April 18, Kirants school hosted teachers and students from “Mkhitar Sebastatsi” Educational Complex in Yerevan. Kirants school students told the guests about Kirants WikiClub. The guests also visited the WikiClub premises, learned about Wikimedia projects and Wikipedia editing. They were inspired by and interested in the “Wiki Loves Monuments” photo contest.
Wiki Loves History

In April, Wikimedia Armenia continued the “Wiki Loves History” edit-a-thon which was launched in January. As the title of the edit-a-thon tells, it is dedicated to creation and improvement of historical articles about Armenia.
On April 12, participants joined the work of researching sources for proposed articles for the second quarter of 2026 and began the improvement work. This time, the articles are related to the geography of historical Greater Armenia and mainly to its provinces and settlements.
YSU Ijevan Branch: Part-time students’ internship
[edit]In April, students from the Department of Armenian History and Social Sciences of the Faculty of Humanities of the YSU Ijevan Branch completed their internships at Wikimedia Armenia which was launched in March. Wikimedia Armenia organized an online training for the students during which WMAM staff presented the work that they should do on Wikipedia, the editing tools, and translation tips. All the other technical questions and issues were addressed at Ijevan Wikiclub.
Throughout the internship in April, 11 students registered on Wikipedia and created 23 articles, totaling 1,463,497 bytes. The internship of part-time students will end in the third week of May.
Awards ceremony for the “Waste management: extended producer and consumer responsibility” edit-a-thon

On April 14, 2026, Wikimedia Armenia hosted the awards ceremony for the “Waste management: extended producer and consumer responsibility” edit-a-thon which was organized by WMAM and Public awareness and monitoring center NGO (PAMC), funded by the Swedish Government and with technical assistance from the AUA Akopian Center for Environment.
The awards ceremony was attended by participants of the edit-a-thon, WMAM and PAMC members, as well as experts from AUA Akopian Center for Environment.
Fourteen participants of the edit-a-thon received certificates of participation and souvenirs prepared by PAMC. The top three winners also received monetary gifts.
“Financial-Economic Wikimonth 2026” project training
[edit]In May 2026, Wikimedia Armenia along with the ABCFinance.am / Central Bank of Armenia will organize the annual “Financial-Economic” Wikimonth edit-a-thon. The purpose of this edit-a-thon is to fill the gap of financial-economic topics on Armenian Wikipedia, improve articles, comprehensively present the topics, and update the existing ones.
This year 105 participants registered to join the edit-a-thon contest, out of which 52 were newcomers. As usual, Wikimedia Armenia organized an online and offline training course for newcomers from 8 to 30 April. During these training courses participants were introduced to Wikipedia, its history, the structure of articles, and editing tools. They did their first steps in registering and creating their sandboxes, translating articles there and later moving them into main space.
Two online and two offline training courses were held with three groups. The courses were attended by 29 participants. Throughout the training course, in parallel with it, 12 participants created 45 articles, in total 749,696 bytes, choosing them from a separate list of articles.
CEE Spring 2026

In April, Armenian Wikipedia editors actively joined the CEE Spring 2026 contest, creating articles about countries from Central and Eastern Europe. Throughout the 40 days from the beginning of the contest, 10 editors from the Armenian Wikimedia community created 589 articles about 16 topics representing 39 countries. The contest will continue until May 31.
Community Meet-up
[edit]On April 8, 2026, Wikimedia Armenia organized its community meet-ups for members of the organization, staff and everyone interested in WMAM’s work. As usual, the meet-up was held both offline at the WMAM office and online via ZOOM. Four people joined the meet-up offline, and 9 joined online.
WMAM President Arshak Shahenyan presented the work done in the previous quarter, activities carried out during that period, as well as the projects and events planned for the upcoming months. Participants discussed the upcoming projects, possible dates, and target audiences.
Participants had a chance to ask questions which were answered by staff members.
Digital Presence
[edit]This month, an article dedicated to mandatory internships of university students at Wikimedia Armenia’s office was published in the Wikimedia Education Newsletter. It presents the mandatory internships, processes and outcomes.
