Wiki Loves Earth is an international photographic competition to promote natural heritage sites around the World through Wikimedia projects (mainly Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons).

The goal of the project is to collect freely-licensed pictures of as many natural monuments and protected areas as possible and contribute to nature protection by raising public awareness. Those pictures are to be used to illustrate articles on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.

This year's competition was organized by Maithili Wikimedians User Group in collaboration with Wikimedians of Nepal. Indra Rai top the chart as he uploads 267 files to the commons through this competition.

Maithili Wikimedians organized three outreach to promote the competition locally. The first outreach was conducted in Pokhara, second in Ilam and third in Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve Area. There were plenty of interested photographer, local media person, students and enthusiasts to take part in the outreach program. This kind of outreach is never done before in the country and the best part about the outreach is photographs from the local upload their photographs to commons.
