Wikimedia Brasil/Report/2025/Capacity Exchange
Report of activities for 2025 - Capacity Exchange
First semester
Renewed version of CapX

In the first semester of 2025, Wikimedia Brasil successfully launched a new version of the Capacity Exchange platform, a mobile-first, open source tool designed to foster peer-to-peer capacity building within the Wikimedia Movement.[1][2] The development was driven by feedback from the community, ensuring the software met real user needs while adhering to best practices in user experience and interface design.[3] The platform was deployed on Wikimedia Toolforge, is thoroughly documented, and fully aligns with the values of openness and decentralization, pivotal to the Wikimedia ecosystem.
This achievement fulfills strategic goals outlined in the Technical Plan and the MSIG Grant commitments, contributing to the chapter's objective of reimagining the Movement's socio-technical infrastructure. The team delivered a stable and functional version of the software, reflecting both technical excellence and thoughtful design. The work is publicly available and widely referenced across movement platforms, reinforcing its value as a shared resource for the Wikimedia community.[4]
Second semester
Let's Connect profile integration process

The integration of Let's Connect participant profiles into the Capacity Exchange marked a transition from decentralized records on Meta-Wiki to a unified, purpose-built platform. This activity aligns with WMB's strategy by reimagining sociotechnical infrastructure, promoting knowledge equity, and strengthening governance networks within the Wikimedia Movement. Its objective was to centralize registration, editing, and participant search processes exclusively within CapX.[5]
The initiative involved developing a dedicated registration feature for new participants and migrating existing Meta-Wiki profiles into CapX. Qualitatively, it delivered a technically and design-driven solution tailored to the needs of the Let's Connect initiative, enabling automated import of user data. Quantitatively, while the migration is ongoing through January 2026, the platform has already seen significant growth in its user base–potentially influenced by both the migration process and the increased visibility generated through the partnership.[6]
