Celebration of the Wikimedia in Portuguese
In May 2025, the Celebration of the Wikimedia in Portuguese (Festa da Wikimedia em Português in Portuguese) was held as a virtual event with a decentralized program that extended throughout the month. Designed for Portuguese-speaking organizations and individuals, the event fostered a strategic space for listening, coordination, and learning among different agents of the Wikimedia Movement in Portuguese. It strengthened Wikimedia Brasil’s commitment to diversity, decentralization, and the collaborative construction of free knowledge, connecting initiatives from Brazil, Portugal, and Portuguese-speaking African countries.[1]
The event included at least ten community sessions, engaged 85 participants, and generated 11 documented resources–such as presentations, videos, workshops, and webinars–made available on Wikimedia Commons. The initiative aligns with the strategic goal of deepening and guiding governance networks within the Wikimedia Movement, fostering globally relevant insights and contributing to a more interconnected and participatory Portuguese-speaking community.[1]
