Wikimedia Brasil International Action Plan

Community symbol for Wikipedia 20

In 2024, Wikimedia Brasil began structuring its international engagement through the development of its first International Action Plan, building on over a decade of contributions to free knowledge. Grounded in the Theory of Change and aligned with the Wikimedia 2030 Movement Strategy, this collaborative process involved strategic analysis, the consolidation of past experiences, and the establishment of clear guidelines for future participation in global governance structures of the Wikimedia Movement.[1]

This initiative contributed to WMB's strategic goal of strengthening and guiding its role within international Wikimedia networks. The resulting document formalizes the group's commitment to a globally connected and principled presence. Developed with the active involvement of the executive coordination and both major management areas–structure and projects–the plan reinforces WMB's international identity and positions the organization as a proactive participant in shaping the future of the movement.

Certificate of Best 100 NGOs for WMB

In 2025, Wikimedia Brasil was selected as one of the 100 Best NGOs in Brazil,[2] a national recognition that highlights excellence in transparency, governance, management, and social impact in the Brazilian civil society service. This recognition aligns with the strategic axis focused on sustaining collaborative practices for free knowledge, directly supporting the goal of consolidating community-governance structures that ensure democratic participation. The objective of participating in the award process was to strengthen institutional credibility, increase visibility, reinforce transparency and management quality, and contribute to resource mobilization and partnerships.

The activity consisted of preparing WMB's application to the Melhores ONGs Award, compiling evidence of governance, management, transparency, and impact for an external evaluation body. Qualitatively, the result was increased credibility, public recognition, and stronger validation of WMB's practices, expanding opportunities for partnerships and fundraising. Quantitatively, WMB achieved national distinction by being selected among the top 100 NGOs in Brazil in 2025, standing out in a competitive evaluation of thousands of organizations.
