The aim of the call is also to engage relevant organisations and institutions such as archives, museums, industry organisations, film and audiovisual festivals to identify opportunities for presentation on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. Activities include workshops, training, edit-a-thons, but mainly a competition – active participants will get rewards from our partners.
- Describe which activities you plan to implement
- 1. Competition
- Main core of the project is a competition Wiki Loves Film. Active participants will get rewards from our partners, they become engaged once they use hashtag #wikifilm2025.
- 2. Inclusion of editors in content creation
- Wiki Loves Film call is open to any wikimedian from CEE Hub region who likes to write about films, TV series, filmmakers or related issues from film history, theory of aesthetics. Call consists of several workshops and edit-a-thons both offline (during film festivals) and online (held in English for participants from partner countries).
- During the call we expect to organise following activities:
- editathons at film festivals (2-3)
- industry events and photoshoots at Karlovy Vary IFF (July 25th – July 31th, 2025)
- industry events and photoshoots at Summer Film School (July 4th – July 12th, 2025)
- We also want to communicate with other film festivals, such as Nowe Horyzons in Poland (July), Sarajevo Film Festival, Manaki Brothers Film Festival (August).
- 3. Spreading info about film in wikimedian community
- Motivation of wikimedian community in CEE region during relaxed summer period is part of this call. Wiki Loves Film wants to motivate everyone, who took part in WikiProject Film, Portal:Film, or just simply likes films and writes about them or wants to start.
- Describe your team
- Core team consists of Pavel Bednařík, Chief tutor and Programs for Partnership Manager of Wikimedia Czech Republic, who also graduated from film studies at Palacky University Olomouc and gathered experience on many positions on Czech film festivals and institutions. Another member of the core team is Lucie Schubert, who is Community Programs Manager and experienced facilitator. - For which Wikimedia projects is the project relevant? For which communities is the project relevant? What is your target group?
- Project is relevant mostly for Wikipedia, as many new or recent articles should be created or updated. Editathons will be focused mostly on editing Wikipedia. Another important part is Wikimedia Commons, where we uploaded 140 images of important filmmakers and personalities at 2 festivals (including Steven Soderbergh, Jan Souček, Jiří Mádl, Jan Gogola and many others). We also plan to join Czech Television and National Film Archive to be partners of the call and add information and database into wikidata project. Communities in CEE region, who love cinema and film. Target groups consist of Wikimedians who are interested in writing articles about films, filmmakers or film professions.

[edit]- Any additional comments or remarks about your project
- This project is a follow-up project of a call and competition Films on Wikipedia, which took place only in Czech Republic in 2024 and was succesful. We gathered 4 partners, visited 2 festivals, uploaded 160 photos and created almost 40 articles. In 2026 we plan to get substantial support also from WMF Rapid Grants.
