Project information
[edit]- What is the main goal of your project?
The main goal of our project is to attract and inspire a new generation of contributors to actively participate in Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects in Tajikistan. Through a series of interactive presentations, workshops, and discussions, we aim to introduce young people to the values of free knowledge, digital literacy, and community collaboration. This initiative will not only raise awareness about Wikipedia but also build a foundation for a sustainable local community of young editors, educators, and digital activists who contribute to the growth of Tajik-language content and the representation of our culture online.
- Describe which activities you plan to implement
Our project will consist of a series of interactive sessions designed to introduce youth in Tajikistan to Wikimedia and Wikipedia. During the first part of the event, we will present the global mission and structure of Wikimedia projects — including Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikidata — and explain how they contribute to the free knowledge movement worldwide.
- In the second part, participants will receive a practical demonstration on how to create their own Wikipedia accounts, set up user profiles, and learn the basic editing tools. Together with experienced Wikimedians, they will go through the process of editing and publishing their first article in the Tajik-language Wikipedia.
- Additionally, we will organize open discussions and a short Q&A session to address participants’ questions, motivate further involvement, and connect new contributors with the existing Wikimedia community in Tajikistan. Follow-up online mentorship will be provided to ensure continued engagement after the event.
- Describe your team
- Our project team consists of three members who bring complementary experience in community organization, Wikimedia engagement, and event coordination:
- Zinhor Nasri – Event Manager & Project Assistant.
- Zinhor will oversee the overall coordination of the event, manage communication with partners, and ensure smooth implementation of all project activities. He has prior experience organizing educational and technology-related events and is actively engaged in Wikimedia outreach in Tajikistan.
- Dustmurod Said – Lead Administrator of Tajik Wikipedia.
- Dustmurod will be responsible for conducting the main presentation on Wikipedia editing and Wikimedia projects. As one of the leading administrators of the Tajik-language Wikipedia, he brings valuable technical and community expertise to guide participants through the editing and publishing process.
- Shodon Sultonov – Junior Wikipedia Editor.
- Shodon will assist participants during the practical session, helping them create profiles and edit their first articles. His recent experience as a new editor makes him a relatable mentor for young participants starting their Wikipedia journey.
- Zinhor Nasri – Event Manager & Project Assistant.
- For which Wikimedia projects is the project relevant? For which communities is the project relevant? What is your target group?
- The project is primarily focused on Wikipedia, particularly the Tajik-language Wikipedia, but will also introduce participants to Wikimedia Commons for uploading photos and Wikidata for structured information. It is relevant to the Wikimedia community in Tajikistan and aims to engage young students, educators, and digital enthusiasts who are new to Wikimedia projects. The target group is youth aged 16–25, especially those interested in writing, media, and technology.
- Do you have any metrics for the proposed grant proposal? If yes, please fill in the number of participants, editors, organisers and content contributions (Wikipedia articles, Wikimedia Commons images, Wikidata items, etc.)
- Yes. We expect around 30 participants in total, including 3 organizers and 2 experienced Wikimedians. At least 15 new editors will create accounts and edit their first articles. We plan to generate around 20 new or improved Wikipedia articles, 30 photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, and several Wikidata entries related to local culture and nature.
