As a result of the implementation of the micro-grant, the pilot project successfully achieved its key objectives.
Photo from the workshop
  1. The workshop was conducted from July 1 to July 3 at the Youth Centre of Kashkadarya Region. Nearly 20 young participants from across Kashkadarya took part in the workshop.
  2. With the support of experienced Uzbek Wikipedia users, we taught participants how to create articles on Wikipedia, the basics of editing articles, and how to upload media files to Wikimedia Commons.
  3. As stated in the proposal, the focus was on creating articles related to young people, children, and their rights. During the workshop, participants received support in translating these articles into Uzbek Wikipedia. Additionally, we visited historical sites in Karshi city and uploaded media files related to these locations to Wikimedia Commons.

As part of the micro-grant implementation, we organized several key activities aimed at expanding content about youth and children’s rights on Uzbek Wikipedia and enhancing community engagement.

  1. An online presentation of the workshop was held, attended by nearly 20 people. This event helped to engage new participants and prepare them for the upcoming activities.
  2. In the following days, we conducted practical lessons with the participants, which proved to be highly effective.
  3. The micro-grant enabled us to significantly exceed the targets for newly created articles and media content on Wikimedia Commons. These results confirm the effectiveness of the activities undertaken and their positive impact on the development of the Uzbek Wikipedia community.

Additional part of the report (Lessons learned)

One of the key lessons learned during the project was the importance of motivating participants. At the start of the workshop, participants had little knowledge of editing Wikipedia articles. However, after well-explained lessons, their interest in Wikipedia grew significantly. As a result, instead of the expected 50 articles, 65 new articles were created in Uzbek, surpassing our initial expectations.

Another significant challenge was the evaluation of the articles. Initially, we anticipated that this process would require only a short amount of time, but in practice, it took considerably longer. This experience provided a valuable lesson, and in future projects, we will plan more realistically regarding the time and resources needed for article evaluation.
