Summary

Minority Translate is a tool for quick content creation in Wikipedia through an interface for rapid translation from articles in other languages. It is primarily designed to assist smaller language Wikipedias, where such bulk translation may significantly ease in gaining an initial foothold or expanding its base in particular categories, but it also allows the user to easily fill the gaps within particular categories in larger Wikipedias.

This presentation will give an overview of the development and use of this tool. It will also point out the future development goals and show how this tool could be put to good used for the support of every Wikimedia wiki. Its various features could provide a fine help to wikipedians and for different education programs.

It is designed to not only speed up the article creation, but also to interact with a linguistic corpus and gather the translation data into a language resource for descriptive studies and technological applications. With this it helps to show the scientific value of the online encyclopedia and bring linguists closer to wikipedians.

This project is a fine example of community driven software development for Wikipedia and it shows the new approach for translation tools. This presentation will let you know more about it, shows the achievements so far and gives a possibility to ask for features to be added to this tool.
