Topic[edit]

  • Best practices for social media

Type of submission (Please choose one)[edit]

  • Presentation (one-to-many)

Summary[edit]

We will look at each of the verified Wikimedia Foundation social media accounts: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest, and discuss how they are used on a daily basis, including how they are used to support affiliates, chapters, groups, and the broader movement. We will discuss use of Commons images and licensing, neutral point of view and conflict of interest, most effective tactics and supporting events. NOTE: I would like to use your posts about #WMCEE2016 in the session and for the WMF blog. Please let me know if that is OK.

Expected outcomes[edit]

Participants will gain new skills in their use of the platforms, even if they don’t have their own accounts, by learning how to leverage the WMF accounts. Participants can connect as “social media ambassadors” to stay connected online. Best practices on use of images, and social media for events will be shared.

Duration (without Q&A)[edit]

One hour with one hour of Q&A

Specific requirements[edit]

An interest in social media (but not necessarily use or expertise)

Slides or further information[edit]

I will adapt these slides from the Wikimedia Conference in Berlin
