From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
ID : 43 How to set your staff for success: from recruitment to graduation
Author(s): Michał Buczyński Username(s): Michał Buczyński (Aegis Maelstrom) Type of submission: Problem solver
Affiliation: Wikimedia Poland Theme(s): Legal, Staff
Abstract:

Time and skills are always welcome, and hiring an employee may sound very tempting. Let's make sure we set our staff for success:
- Hiring: position description, budgeting and planning (do we really need them?), recruitment process
- Growing: onboarding, setting goals, evaluation and further development;
- Graduating: when we say goodbye (but don't be a stranger).

Let's discuss particular necessities when having the staff, and share our experience to help setting us for success! Numerous examples from Wikimedia Poland will be provided, and please feel most invited to share.

Slides: Slides on Commons
Level of advancement: Intermediate - I'll try to be as adjusting as possible
Special requirements: Sitting space in the problem solver / workshop mode. Screen and flipchart would be a plus.
Recording (Yes/No): Yes
Photography (Yes/No): Yes
How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region of CEE?

Raising awareness on the requirements and best practice of hiring the staff should lead to the better functioning and more informed decision.

If you are shy, Wikimedia Poland has a fair treasure trove of fail to share :) - but you will benefit most discussing your stories as well!
