Abstract:

Several affiliates in the CEE region are hesitant to take on the responsibility of organizing a CEE Meeting or a similar large-scale event. This lecture will explore the challenges communities face when deciding to host such events. It will also demonstrate how, with proper organization and support from the CEE Hub and other CEE communities, any community can successfully host an international meeting. The session will draw on the experience of the Wikimedia Community User Group Greece, which is organizing this year’s CEE Meeting.

  • The session sounds promising. I hope it will also include a discussion of the communication challenges with potential participants — for example, in our case, all the information has been coming through intermediaries rather than directly from the organizers.
