Wikimedia CEE Spring 2026/Organizing

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Tasks

[edit]
Global tasks

For transparency in the organizational process, the organizing committee, which meets every two weeks, has decided to publish here a list of topics under discussion. If you have suggestions on how to address any of these issues, please share them!

  • It was decided that we should have lists of articles for suggestions for participants, but we should not have any policies about maintaining these lists. From the next year, we will not create separate lists for every year anymore; instead, we will have one template with all countries, which may be updated, or not
  • It was discussed that the global organisers team has no goal to define the borders of the CEE region. We may declare the HoF list, as long as it is strongly related to the year's active communities, but the list of articles is not related to the borders of the region. Every country may define its own list of countries to write about.

Participants

[edit]

Guide for participants During the editing contest, participants are expected to:

  • create new articles and improve existing ones; as inspiration for writing new articles, article lists exist for every CEE community that mostly have English Wikipedia entries that can be used as a template
  • add credible external links to articles; and
  • add images to articles to make them more vivid.

Sub-contests

[edit]

You can take a part on different sub-contests that usually are held during the CEE Spring anytime besides your community take a part into the contest. In 2026, there are several separate sub-contests in preparation (pages might not exist yet):

Local coordinators

[edit]

Guide for local coordinators Prior to the editing contest, local coordinators have to prepare the following:

  • create separate project pages for CEE Spring and their separate editing contest on their home wiki;
  • discuss the rules of the contest with their community;
  • define a list of around 100 articles about their country, region or language, which can be distributed in ten per possible categories (such as Women, Youth, Human Rights, etc). Article lists can be provided directly from the local coordinator or through a discussion page on the respective home wikis with the help from the respective communities, especially when the content of the article list is disputed;
  • inform the community and active editors about upcoming CEE Spring on their home wiki; and
  • organize a jury from other volunteers in the movement, who will not take part in the contest.

During the editing contest, local coordinators are asked to:

  • make sure that all participating articles on their own wiki have the CEE Spring template (Template:CEE Spring 2026) with parameters for username, topic and country, which is needed to acquire proper statistics about the local contest; and
  • promote the contest and give additional information about the contest through sitenotice, social media, blogs, or other ways.
