In 2026, the association Wikimedia CH celebrates its 20th anniversary. Together with the community, we also want to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Wikipedia. Whether online, at a local meetup, or at a major celebration – Wikimedia CH’s 20th anniversary and Wikipedia’s 25th anniversary are the perfect occasion to celebrate together! In our calendar, you’ll find an overview of all events taking place as part of the 2026 anniversary activities.

Highlights

February 20 & 21: Winterkongress der Digitalen Gesellschaft, Zurich. Wikimedia CH will be represented with an information stand.
February 19 to 21: GLAM-on-Tour Kloster Disentis.
April 9 to 12: Wikipedia at HIGA 2026 in Chur. Free Knowledge introduces itself with a focus on new activities around Chur and Vichipedia rumantscha.
May 30: Wikipedia Day 2026 – The stage is yours-Party and General Assembly.

Would you like not only to attend but also to organise your own event or celebration? Wonderful – thank you for your commitment!

If you need support, the support page (in German language) provided by the Wikimedia associations of Germany, Austria and Switzerland offers useful assistance: covering selected costs, providing materials, helping with event planning, offering suitable gifts for celebrations, and much more.
If you are planning meetups or events specifically for Wikipedia’s 25th anniversary, please visit the Wikipedia 25 page on Meta-Wiki. It serves as a central starting point to help the global Wikimedia movement coordinate its anniversary activities.
We would also like to draw your attention to Micro-Grants of Wikimedia CH, intended for the Wikimedia Community to ask Wikimedia CH for financial support for a project or an activity, up to 1'000 CHF. Requests above 1'001 CHF fall under Grants.
Do you want to make your event more visible? Our dedicated calendar allows you to announce all Wikimedia/Wikipedia-related events taking place in Switzerland as part of the 2026 anniversary celebrations, in the language of the event. International meetings and events relevant to the Swiss wiki community that are directly linked to the anniversaries may also be added.

Wikipedia Day 2026 with General Assembly and Party in Bern

On 30 May 2026, Wikimedia CH invites you to Wikipedia Day 2026 and its General Assembly in Bern. This Wikipedia Day marks the celebration of 25 years of Wikipedia and 20 years of Wikimedia CH.

Wikipedia at HIGA 2026 – Knowledge from the region, by everyone, for everyone

Wikipedia is the world’s largest freely accessible online encyclopedia – and it thrives on participation. At HIGA Chur, from 9–12 April 2026, Wikipedia contributors together with the supporting association Wikimedia CH will demonstrate how knowledge is created collaboratively and how local topics, especially from Graubünden, can gain visibility. The interactive presence invites visitors to explore Wikipedia through short hands-on activities, regional examples, and tips for getting started with contributing. Whether local knowledge, history, associations, or culture – every contribution matters.
Our presence is conceived as an experiential and educational element at HIGA, encouraging visitors to pause, explore, connect, and reflect. In this way, it creates added value for the audience, the region, and the fair alike.

Invitation to give a quote

To mark Wikipedia's 25th anniversary, Wikimedia CH is collecting personal quotes from Wikipedia contributors (with photos if possible) about their motivation for writing on Wikipedia and more. The quotes will be published on Wikimedia Commons, on this Meta-Wiki Projectpage, on the website and on Wikimedia CH's social media channels.
