Wikimedia Community User Group Albania/2024 Report

Summary

During these 12 months we focused our efforts on the following activities:

growing the core team;
continued working on already established partnerships;
monthly meetings of our User Group team members to share knowledge with each other and plan for activities;
collaborating with the CEE Hub;
planning for the next year.

Description of the activity: WikiOutdoor Training 2024 (WOT 2024) was an outdoor event which aimed to develop leadership and organisational skills for conducting outdoor projects. The participants learnt how to identify underrepresented topics, discover and navigate to places of interest, produce quality images and multimedia, search reference works and document the underrepresented topics on the Wikimedia projects. The event took place in the period 7–8 September 2024 in the Prespa Region of Macedonia.

Description of the activity: Wikimedia CEE Meeting 2024 (#WMCEE) was an annual conference centered on Wikimedia projects (Wikipedia and other related projects) in countries of Central and Eastern Europe (more recently, also in Central Asia). It featured presentations on Wikimedia projects, other wikis, free/open source software, free knowledge and free content, and these topics' social and technical aspects. Two members of our user group participated in the event and shared the gained knowledge with other UG members.

Description of the activity: This was the extended work started previously. We managed to have an agreement with the team behind the Albania-based contemporary art collective DebatikCenter. Our primary objective has been for a while to document a previously overlooked aspect of Albanian culture in the commons: the contemporary art scene. This represents a fundamental shift as, for the first time, we aim to add information and knowledge related to contemporary art in Albania in EN and SQ Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons.
