- Tofeiku, Treasurer
Report Summary
[edit]This report offers the perspective of a delegate from a small User Group of a developing country.
Entry Process
[edit]For this year, it was supposed to be Wafiq to represent the user group. However, I, Taufik, had to replace him due to his studies.
Communication, Financial & Travel Advice for Malaysian Attendee
[edit]Ticket purchasing and lodging arrangements were provided by the organiser through their travel agent.
Malaysians do not need Visa for most European countries. It is recommended that attendee check that their credit or debit card has international transaction allowed. This can be done through online banking. However, cards are not much used throughout my trip in Berlin. Ensure transits flights take into account possible flight delays and time spent in security. My inbound flight from Kuala Lumpur to Istanbul was delayed for a few hours making my layover duration around less than 2 hours. Due to that, I had to rush to the departing gate which was quite far from the arriving gate that I had landed. I managed to buy some souvenirs and straight away entered the gate.
Recommended to print any documents like itinerary and insurance by Wikimedia.
Communications are mostly by Telegram.
Bring sweets and also a good sense of what the group has accomplished, its challenges, presented verbally or via posters. Do not forget to bring some labels and the ingredient description.
Laptop is optional. Not really used unless you volunteer yourself to become the note taker. Friendly disposition and name cards is a must. Although, no namecard was given to me throughout the summit despite being friends with some participants.
RECOMMENDATION:
- Even with full sponsorship, a delegate requires some investment in time and money to attend a Wikimedia Summit.
- Recommend to subscribe to roaming.
- Bring bread or cup noodles from home. Also, some coins to exchange coins with other participants.

Minor Impressions/Random notes
[edit]- I have met with ESEAP Wikimedians
- Made some close friends there like Caner of Turkey and James of Thailand.
- Some Wikimedians do not really know much about this movement strategy.
- Get to gain ideas from experienced Wikimedians
