Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda/WikiProject Newspapers : Uganda

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
This is a banner for WikiProject Newspapers Uganda.

Uganda has a rich newspaper history dating back to 1900 with over 100 published since then. However, Wikipedia currently documents only 15. Our goal is to significantly expand this online record by creating high-quality Wikipedia articles, associated Wikidata items and uploading images to Wikimedia Commons, ultimately increasing awareness of Uganda's journalistic heritage.

Scope

[edit]

Under this project, we will:

  1. Identify Ugandan newspapers or papers that were published in Uganda that are not documented on Wikimedia projects.
  2. Write quality articles including adding categories, lists on Wikipedia and improve existing ones etc.
  3. Create Wikidata items and improve existing ones.
  4. Upload quality images on Wikimedia Commons.

Important information to consider

[edit]
  1. Name and Location (Headquarters of the Newspaper).
  2. Frequency of Publication.
  3. Date established.
  4. Date the newspaper ceased publication (if any).
  5. Circulation numbers in a given year (if available).

Challenges

[edit]
  1. There is limited information about some publications both in print and online which poses a challenge to research and ultimately a quality article ;
  2. Some of the physically accessible materials are in a fragile state and must be handled with utmost care ;
