The Wikimedia User Group Zambia proudly presents Zambia's Wikimedia Knowledge Without Borders Project 2026. This plan outlines our vision, objectives, and key initiatives for the year, reflecting our commitment to advancing free knowledge, expanding local content, and strengthening Zambia’s presence within the global Wikimedia movement.
Mission and Vision
[edit]Our mission is to support and promote free access to knowledge, working with volunteers across the country, and partnering with governmental and non-governmental organisations, cultural and educational institutions, and other mission-aligned groups to make knowledge freely accessible.
Our vision is to become the primary point of contact for Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects in Zambia, and to establish ourselves as a leading hub for free knowledge in Africa.
Objectives

- Increase the quality and quantity of Zambia-related content on Wikimedia projects.
- Support the creation and free distribution of educational materials in Zambia.
- Partner with education-based organisations, including government, to create and distribute open educational resources.
- Support the mission of the Wikimedia Foundation.
- Use Wikimedia projects as critical tools for education and learning in Zambia.

- Contribute to international campaigns such as Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Monuments, and Wiki Loves Folklore.

Capacity-Building

[edit]Wikimedia User Group Zambia will continue expanding regional networks and institutional fan clubs across the country. These units form the backbone of program implementation and help drive sustainability at local levels.
Strategy
[edit]We will convene an Executive Retreat at the beginning of 2026 with leaders from all regional units and fan clubs to align on Zambia's Wikimedia Knowledge Without Borders Project 2026. This retreat will focus on capacity development, leadership support, and addressing challenges facing community operations.
