Our Goals

• Increase awareness and adoption of Wikimedia platforms and principles in Zambia.
• Facilitate the creation and curation of content on Wikimedia platforms that is relevant and useful to Zambian communities.
• Build and sustain partnerships with organizations and communities that share our mission and values.
• Advocate for policies and practices that support open access to information and knowledge in Zambia.
• Develop and empower a diverse community of Wikimedia contributors in Zambia.

The Strategies

1. Increase awareness and adoption of Wikimedia platforms and principles in Zambia.

• Host training workshops and events to introduce Wikimedia platforms and principles to new users.
• Develop educational resources and materials that promote the use of Wikimedia platforms in education, research, and other domains.
• Partner with libraries, schools, and other organizations to promote Wikimedia platforms and principles.

2. Facilitate the creation and curation of content on Wikimedia platforms that is relevant and useful to Zambian communities.

• Organize content creation and editing events that focus on topics relevant to Zambian communities.
• Develop partnerships with organizations and communities to identify content gaps and prioritize content creation efforts.
• Provide support and training to new and existing editors to ensure that they have the skills and knowledge necessary to create high-quality content.

3. Build and sustain partnerships with organizations and communities that share our mission and values.

• Identify and cultivate partnerships with organizations that share our commitment to free knowledge and open access.
• Participate in and support activities and initiatives that promote open access to information and knowledge in Zambia.
• Collaborate with other Wikimedia User Groups and organizations to share resources and knowledge.

4. Advocate for policies and practices that support open access to information and knowledge in Zambia.

• Engage with policymakers, government agencies, and other stakeholders to advocate for policies that support open access to information and knowledge.
• Collaborate with other organizations and individuals that are working to promote open access to information and knowledge in Zambia.
• Provide educational resources and materials to policymakers and other stakeholders to raise awareness of the value of open access.

5. Develop and empower a diverse community of Wikimedia contributors in Zambia.

• Create and implement strategies to recruit and retain a diverse community of Wikimedia contributors.
• Foster a safe and inclusive environment for all community members.
• Develop training and leadership development programs to empower community members to take on leadership roles within the User Group.

Our Measurement and Evaluation

We will track and evaluate our progress towards achieving our goals through metrics such as:

• Number of new users and editors trained and engaged.
• Number of new articles and content pages created and improved.
• Number and quality of partnerships developed and sustained.
• Number of policies and practices influenced by our advocacy efforts.
• Diversity and inclusivity of our community, as measured by demographic data and feedback from community members.

By implementing this strategy, the Wikimedia User Group Zambia Incorporated can help promote free knowledge and open access to information in Zambia, and contribute to the global knowledge commons.
