What is the project about?[edit]

The Tour of Free Knowledge will strengthen regional and national networks. The aim is to give active education sector actors from the field of free teaching and learning content (Open Educational Resources, OER) an opportunity to network and discuss this topic with one another. It is important for the implementation of this project that we build up on existing OER activities and improve the communication that has so far been inadequate.

The dialogue between the actors will help them to set up joint projects and initiatives; discussions that have so far taken place in isolation can be joined up and ideas for joint pilot projects can be developed. We will invite policymakers and teachers to discuss the significance of free teaching and learning content in the education sector with one another.

The project focuses on setting up local working groups and on planning and holding a nationwide networking seminar. Anyone with key topics and ideas for activities will be welcome!

How will this project help us meet our annual goals?[edit]

So far, actors involved in the debate on free teaching and learning content have very little contact with one another. However, education policy actors can inform others about the topic and can serve as contact persons within their circles.

If actors discuss this topic with one another, more people will learn about it and knowledge transfer will be improved. The aspects that are important for producing and distributing free content and the cause of the current problem are the first important questions in this area.

Small working groups focusing on a specific target will give the project participants the chance to adopt a position and to liaise with actors from their immediate environment. The project ideas that arise from this contact will increase awareness of the topic and create a practical foundation for further successful work beyond 2013.

What are the key milestones along the way and by when should we reach them?[edit]

note, step 1 was changed because of the connection with project 13 on 19.04.2013.

No. When What
1. July 31, 2013 3 working groups have been put in place. They biult the starting point for dialogues on their key topics. The project ideas that arise from this dialogue will increase awareness of the topic and create a practical foundation for further successful work beyond 2013.
2. September, 2013 A nationwide networking event takes place. This will attract attention to a very wide range of actors and strengthen the movement as a whole. Education policy decision-makers in particular will be made aware of the significance and potential of free teaching and learning content. Wikimedia Deutschland will look for partners in order to create greater and more focused awareness of individual actors from the formal education sector.
3. November 31, 2013 An action recommendation for 2014 is produced. This will be based on the evaluation of the results of the networks established by the project and will ensure that the work is continued in the future.
