Community and Affiliate Liaisons

Community and Affiliate Board Liaisons serve as a vital bridge between Wikimedia Foundation leadership and the global Wikimedia movement. Their role is to promote consistent two-way dialogue between the Wikimedia Foundation Board and the editing and affiliate communities. This involves supporting Board members in attending regional and global events, coordinating additional online and in person conversations, and staying up to date on community developments in order to bring key issues to the Board’s attention. Liaisons make themselves available to community members, taking in questions, concerns, reflections and feedback that are then funneled into strategic planning processes.

Through ongoing exchange, the Liaisons connect high-level decision making to realities on the ground, working to advance Wikimedia’s mission and vision in partnership with volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Lead community engagement on behalf of the Board, working with Foundation staff to:
  • Support trustees in attending community events and connecting with community members throughout the year
  • Schedule virtual or in-person conversations with the Board and interested community members
  • Help identify and offer resources to future candidates for community-and-affiliates seats
  • Help anyone interested to understand the role of the Board
  • Build connections with the communities that help the Board better guide the decisions of the Wikimedia Foundation
  • Stay up to date on what is happening in the community and bring topical and strategic issues for broader Board discussions.

Current Liaisons

Liaison Victoria Doronina at WikiWomenCamp

• Maciej Nadzikiewicz (User:Nadzik). Wikipedia editor, renamer and rollbacker with over 145,000 edits and 3000 sysop logs. Former Secretary of the Board at Wikimedia Europe and member of the Governance Board at Wikimedia Polska. Wikimedia Foundation trustee since 2024.
• Victoria Doronina (User:Victoria). Wikipedia editor and former Russian Wikipedia Arbitration Committee member with over 94,000 edits. Former Funds Dissemination Committee member. Wikimedia Foundation trustee since 2021.
