Goal delivery
What is the affiliate mission? To support and develop the Wikimedia movement and community in Ohio.
What are the affiliate goals? Link to the strategic plan, if there is one. Our goals are:
  • To promote Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects within Ohio.
  • To collaboratively improve the quality of Wikimedia project content through edit-a-thons, workshops, educational programs, and more.
  • To support any Wikimedia-oriented events or organizations operating within Ohio.
  • To establish a sense of community within our group.
Organizational development
How does the affiliate make decisions? How are decisions communicated? Ohio Wikimedians primarily discusses and communicates via its talk page on Meta Wiki. Decisions are driven by on-wiki consensus from affiliate members, and announcements are made via messages (with a "ping" template available to mass-ping all members for important updates).
What is the current state of the affiliate finances? Link to the latest financial report, if there is one. Ohio Wikimedians received a rapid grant from the Wikimedia Foundation to organize Wiki Loves Monuments 2024 in the United States. Wikimedia NYC served as the fiscal sponsor for this grant. Ohio Wikimedians otherwise did not directly have finances through this report period. Several Wikimedia projects and events in Ohio received funding and in-kind through other groups and organizations.
Affiliate health and resilience
How many people participate in the decision-making process in the affiliate? Any members of Ohio Wikimedians are welcome to join discussions to determine consensus on decision making.
Has there been any significant changes in the level of the affiliate membership body (e.g. increase/decrease of number of dues-paying members)? Through this reporting period, Ohio Wikimedians membership was fairly static, at just under 40 members.
Are there any affiliate activities in the past year that were led by affiliate members? Please share the highlights. Ohio Wikimedians served as the grantee and provided organizing support for Wiki Loves Monuments 2024 in the United States; several editathons were held at Ohio universities, including the Ohio University Images in Commons at Ohio University.
Leadership and inclusion
Diverse, skilled, and accountable leadership
What kind of skills does the affiliate leadership possess? Local and online events
Is there any kind of succession plan for the affiliate leadership? If the current leaders step down, it is expected that they suggest successors from the active membership.
Are there any trainings that affiliate leadership undergo before they assume their leadership position? No, leadership does not receive formal training.
Are there any requirements for affiliate leadership to disclose their conflict(s) of interests? Yes
Diversity balance (especially gender)
What is the diversity level of the affiliate leadership and membership body? Our current two leaders are both male.

We do not currently collect demographic information of our members so exact percentages are currently not able to be calculated.

How is the affiliate leadership encouraging gender diversity in the decision-making process(es) of the affiliate? All impactful decisions are made between discussions open to all members. If specific backgrounds, viewpoints, and experience would be helpful for a discussion, we try to seek individuals out who can provide that.
Universal Code of Conduct compliance
How does the affiliate leadership ensure, enforce, and evaluate compliance with the Universal Code of Conduct obligations? All Ohio Wikimedians activities, events, and spaces are subject to the Wikimedia Foundation Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC). See the FAQ for more details. Ohio event organizers are encouraged to communicate these expectations to event participants.

Partnerships
Contribute development
What are the 3 (three) capacities that the affiliate would like to strengthen in the next 12 months? Policy advocacy
Communication and media relations
Community governance
What are the organizations, community projects, or groups that the affiliate had been working or seeking to work with to develop and support the 3 capacities? We have historically had Wikimedians and librarians organizing events at Ohio University and Ohio State University. We'd like to see more regular Wikipedia events at more universities, and potentially with other educational institutions. We also see an opportunity to partner with local historic societies to encourage participation in Wiki Loves Monuments.
