What is the affiliate mission? Sustaining and expanding the community of contributors and Promoting access to the free knowledge in Burundi through Wikimedia projects
What are the affiliate goals? Link to the strategic plan, if there is one. * Build a community of contributors who contribute in editing and improving articles on Wikimedia projects in all areas in Burundi for the free knowledge;
  • Raise awareness of Wikimedia projects in Burundi;
  • Work towards greater equity in the Wikimedia movement by promoting the inclusion of women within the Wikimedia Community User Group Burundi;
  • Seek partnerships with local and international institutions to promote Wikimedia projects in Burundi's national languages;
  • Collaboration with organizations, whose goals match the goals of free knowledge and culture.

How does the affiliate make decisions? How are decisions communicated? The decision making is made based on a vote of the membership.
What is the current state of the affiliate finances? Link to the latest financial report, if there is one. Affiliate health and resilience
How many people participate in the decision-making process in the affiliate? A team of six (06) people participates in decision-making, namely a coordinator, two (02) advisors, a communications officer, a person in charge of contributions, and a women's participation manager :Gilbert, Hassan, Siméon, Isertte, Richard, Juliette.
Has there been any significant changes in the level of the affiliate membership body (e.g. increase/decrease of number of dues-paying members)? Increase, we have seen growth in the number of contributing members within our user group. The activities we have organized have been beneficial in recruiting new volunteer members.
Are there any affiliate activities in the past year that were led by affiliate members? Please share the highlights. Since our commencement, we have organized activities that have allowed us to raise awareness, recruit volunteers, and contribute to Wikimedia projects. Among the activities already carried out in Burundi, we can mention, among others:
  • Guhubura (correction), an activity to correct Wikipedia articles in Kirundi;
  • Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos: an activity through which members of our community contributed by enriching Wikipedia articles with photos;
  • Wiki Loves Africa: an activity through which members of the Burundi community join others to take photos related to each year's themes and share them on Wikimedia Commons;
  • Wiki Loves Earth: an activity through which members of the Burundi community join others to take photos of protected sites in the country and share them on Wikimedia Commons;
  • Wiki Loves Women / SheSaid: an activity through which members of the Burundi community join others to contribute to improving the representation of women and their visibility on Wikiquote;
  • And other activities such as: Africa Wiki Challenge; WikiForHumanRights; Activities around the International Month of Francophone Contribution; …
  • We have established collaborations with other communities to implement opinion and needs assessment activities for contributors within the framework of the "Movement Strategy in Africa Great Lakes," a collaboration between Burundi, Rwanda, and the DRC.

This has allowed us, among other things, to train members of the respective communities in photography and contributing to Wikimeda Commons and Wikidata.

Diverse, skilled, and accountable leadership
What kind of skills does the affiliate leadership possess? Communication, member recruitment
Is there any kind of succession plan for the affiliate leadership? Succession planning is done by identifying roles; the assembly identifies potential candidates to prepare them to take over.
Are there any trainings that affiliate leadership undergo before they assume their leadership position? We had the opportunity to conduct a leadership skills development training program for managers, as well as programs and events within our community. However, we are eager to organize further training sessions to build capacity and develop new leaders.
Are there any requirements for affiliate leadership to disclose their conflict(s) of interests? Yes, leaders are required to declare any potential conflict of interest before onboarding.
Diversity balance (especially gender)
What is the diversity level of the affiliate leadership and membership body? Our group is composed of volunteer men and women, mostly young people and a few adults. Geographically, our members come from different parts of our country.
How is the affiliate leadership encouraging gender diversity in the decision-making process(es) of the affiliate? Our community's decision-making group is composed of both men and women.

How does the affiliate leadership ensure, enforce, and evaluate compliance with the Universal Code of Conduct obligations? The Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC) is our primary guide for all activities organized within our community. At each event or activity, we dedicate time to reviewing the clauses of the Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC).
