Goal delivery
What is the affiliate mission? The Wikimedians of the Tamazight User Group is dedicated to promoting, enriching, and preserving Tamazight languages and culture across all Wikimedia projects. The group works to increase the availability and quality of knowledge related to Amazigh history, heritage, and contemporary society, while supporting contributors from diverse Tamazight-speaking communities. Through outreach, training, content creation, and partnerships with cultural and educational institutions, the User Group strives to strengthen representation of Tamazight languages online and ensure that Amazigh knowledge is freely accessible to people around the world.
What are the affiliate goals? Link to the strategic plan, if there is one. 1. Increase high-quality content on Tamazight languages, history, culture, and heritage across Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, and other platforms.

2. Support and grow a diverse community of contributors from Tamazight-speaking regions and the diaspora through training, workshops, and mentoring. 3. Promote the use and visibility of Tamazight languages online, including standardization efforts, orthography support, and integration of Tifinagh script in Wikimedia projects. 4. Develop partnerships with cultural, linguistic, academic, and GLAM institutions to document and share Amazigh knowledge. 5. Strengthen technical and leadership capacities within the community to ensure sustainability and long-term growth.

Organizational development
How does the affiliate make decisions? How are decisions communicated? The Wikimedians of the Tamazight User Group makes decisions through an open, collaborative process during online community meetings, where members discuss proposals and vote to reach a majority agreement. This participatory approach ensures transparency and collective ownership of the group’s activities. All decisions are recorded and communicated afterwards through our online communication channels, allowing members who could not attend to stay informed and engaged.
What is the current state of the affiliate finances? Link to the latest financial report, if there is one. We did not receive any grants from the Wikimedia Foundation, but we were funded through a grant provided by the Million Wiki Project.
Affiliate health and resilience

Has there been any significant changes in the level of the affiliate membership body (e.g. increase/decrease of number of dues-paying members)? Membership stable, but the board changed.
Are there any affiliate activities in the past year that were led by affiliate members? Please share the highlights.
  • The group organized an internal training workshop on QuickStatements 3.0 (for batch editing on Wikidata), led by a member — aimed at training 5–7 members to improve structured data contributions.
  • The group formed a dedicated task force of three members to participate in the WikiCollection competition — coordinating contributions of photos, articles, and Wikidata entries about traditional Amazigh collectibles (pottery, jewelry, crafts, etc.).
  • They launched a major cultural documentation initiative: “Preserving a Tapestry of Cultures: A Wikimedia Journey through the Tuareg, Aurès, and Kabyle Heritage” — documenting heritage via photographs, Wikidata entries, and collaboration with local communities/artisans.
  • For International Women's Day 2025, a contributor from the group created 62 articles in Kabyle language about notable women — significantly boosting representation of women’s biographies in a minority-language Wikipedia.
  • The group participated actively in international events: representation at Wikimania 2025 and at the Wikimedia Francophone Convention in Benin — allowing the group to network, present their work, and build partnerships with other Wikimedia communities.
Leadership and inclusion
Diverse, skilled, and accountable leadership
What kind of skills does the affiliate leadership possess? The affiliate leadership demonstrates strong community-oriented leadership, capable of organizing projects and events, coordinating cross-cultural collaborations, and guiding strategic initiatives for Tamazight content and heritage preservation.
Is there any kind of succession plan for the affiliate leadership? There is currently no formal succession plan in place for the affiliate leadership, but transitions are managed collaboratively through community discussions and the involvement of active, experienced members.
Are there any trainings that affiliate leadership undergo before they assume their leadership position? There is no formal training required before assuming a leadership role, but new leaders are supported through a practical, mentorship-based approach: they first co-organize an activity or event alongside an experienced member, and then take the lead independently the next time. This hands-on method serves as our on-the-ground training model and helps build confidence and skills within the community.
Are there any requirements for affiliate leadership to disclose their conflict(s) of interests? There is no formal conflict-of-interest disclosure policy in place, but affiliate leaders are expected to act transparently and avoid situations where personal interests could influence community decisions. When potential conflicts arise, members are encouraged to openly communicate them and step back from related decision-making to maintain trust and fairness within the group.
Diversity balance (especially gender)
What is the diversity level of the affiliate leadership and membership body? Leadership: 100% males, 0% females, 0% others. Membership: 60% males, 40% females, 0% others.
How is the affiliate leadership encouraging gender diversity in the decision-making process(es) of the affiliate? With women representing around 40% of our active membership, the affiliate leadership ensures they are fully included in discussions and voting. Women are encouraged to co-organize activities and take on leadership roles, helping to maintain an inclusive and gender-balanced decision-making process.
Universal Code of Conduct compliance
How does the affiliate leadership ensure, enforce, and evaluate compliance with the Universal Code of Conduct obligations? We communicate the UCoC through our Telegram group, mailing lists, social media, and website, and our Revision Committee (Board) ensures compliance with all relevant rules.
