Wikimedia Futures Lab/Dashboard/Experiment Tracker/Temporary Admin Role for Medium Wikis

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
  • Experiment owner(s) - add your usernames: Renvoy, SanBonne
  • Experiment title: Temporary Admin role for Medium Wikis
  • Brief description of experiment:

Given that: there is a decline in administrators across all wikis.

We suggest trying: introducing an experiment of temporary admins as a way to (a) meet urgent needs, and (b) find potential candidates for long-term.

Questions to ask in evaluation:

  • How well do temporary admins do?
  • For a given wiki, what temporary period would they use, and what is ideal
  • How many go on to become long term admins? (votes, etc)
  • How many people go on to less good faith action after they get promoted?
  • Survey temporary admins about the experience
  • Potentially survey the community on trust
  • Other people in support: User:CS_natematias

Next steps:

  • JNM interview User:Renvoy write the story of Ukraine’s wikipedia, for recruitment (include data on admin decline, and how Ukraine is different)
  • Create a guide to introducing this policy, including a set of templates that would be useful (User:Renvoy can document what Ukraine did)
  • Recruit potentially interested wikis and people, and create some way for them to have conversations, ask questions, and support each other
  • Communities to reach out to:
  • User:SanBonne can reach out to Arabic and French Wikipedias
  • Anticipated completion date:
  • Link to a page where people can follow progress - this can be your own userpage / sandbox:
