Wikimedia Georgia (Georgian - ვიკიმედია საქართველო) is a proposal of a local chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation in Georgia. Its mission is to support and spread all Wikimedia projects in the country.

Georgia (Georgian: საქართველო, sak’art’velo) is a sovereign state in the Caucasus region of Eurasia. Located at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe, it is bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north by Russia, to the southwest by Turkey, to the south by Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan. The history of Georgia can be traced back to the ancient kingdoms of Colchis and Iberia. It was one of the first countries to adopt Christianity, in the early 4th century. Georgia reached the peak of its political and economic strength during the reign of King David IV and Queen Tamar in the 11th – 12th centuries. Georgian culture evolved over thousands of years with its foundations in Iberian and Colchian civilizations, continuing into the rise of the unified Georgian Kingdom under the single monarchy of the Bagrationi. Georgian culture enjoyed a golden age and renaissance of classical literature, arts, philosophy, architecture and science in the 11th century.

 

The main target of “Wikimedia Georgia” activity is:

  • a) the knowledge extending (to initiate and stimulate the people’s interest to the knowledge, to support the knowledge dissemination and accessibility).
  • b) the knowledge access support organization for any citizen in spite of their property and other conditions.
  • c) to reflect the knowledge stored by the Georgian people in the international projects provided for the creation, storing, development and dissemination.
  • d) to support the informational and other technologies creation, extending and usage contributing the.
  • e) to take part in the knowledge creation, storing and dissemination contributing regulations and other standard acts formation.
